Product Overview

At-a-Glance Summary

This 10-frame assembled and painted white 9-5/8 inch deep hive body is a ready-to-use brood box for standard Langstroth hive equipment.

It includes your choice of 10 triple wax-coated frames and foundation options with either plastic one-piece frames or assembled wooden frames with triple waxed foundation.

Definition

A deep hive body is the large lower box in a Langstroth hive commonly used for brood rearing and for storing feed near the cluster.

A 9-5/8 inch deep box is the standard deep size used in many 10-frame hive setups.

Quick Answer

This product is a fully assembled 10-frame deep brood box that gives beekeepers a fast way to add a standard deep hive body to a hive without building or painting the box first.

The included triple wax-coated frames are designed to help bees accept the frame surface and start working it.

  • Material: Pine
  • Finish: Assembled and painted white
  • Frame coating: Triple wax coating

Why Beekeepers Use This Type of Product

Deep hive bodies are commonly used where the colony raises brood and builds population.

Beekeepers also use deep boxes to give the colony room for feed stores, especially during periods of spring buildup.

How It Works in the Hive or Apiary

This box fits into a standard 10-frame Langstroth hive system and can be added to the hive as a deep brood chamber.

As the colony expands, additional boxes can be stacked above it to increase space for brood, feed, or later honey storage depending on the beekeeper's setup.

Apiary Management Notes

The black foundation option makes it easier to see small white eggs during inspections.

The yellow foundation option more closely resembles the color of natural beeswax and is a common preference among many beekeepers.

The difference between black and yellow foundation is a beekeeper preference choice and is not presented as a bee acceptance difference.

Typical Timing and Seasonal Use

Deep hive bodies are commonly used during spring buildup when colonies need space to expand brood and store feed.

This type of box can also be added whenever colony growth requires more room in a standard Langstroth hive.

What the Product Includes

  • One assembled and painted white 9-5/8 inch deep 10-frame hive body
  • Your choice of 10 triple wax-coated plastic one-piece deep frames or 10 assembled wooden deep frames with triple waxed foundation

Understanding the Options

You can choose plastic one-piece deep frames or assembled wooden deep frames with triple waxed foundation.

You can also choose black or yellow foundation. Black makes eggs easier to see during inspections, while yellow is often chosen by beekeepers who prefer a more beeswax-like appearance.

How This Product Fits into a Standard Hive System

This deep hive body is made to work with standard Langstroth beekeeping equipment.

In a typical 10-frame hive, deep boxes are often used as brood chambers and are stacked with other compatible 10-frame hive components as the colony grows.

Beekeeping Knowledge Facts

A deep brood box gives bees room to raise brood and maintain nearby feed reserves.

Frame wax coating matters because wax scent and surface texture can influence how readily bees begin working a new frame.

Comparison and Buying Context

Feature This Product Alternative Option
Assembly Fully assembled and painted Unassembled boxes requiring setup
Time to Use Ready to place in hive immediately Requires assembly, painting, and drying time
Frame Options Choice of plastic one-piece or wooden frames with foundation Often sold separately or limited to one type
Foundation Color Black or yellow options available May be limited or require separate purchase
Best For Beekeepers wanting convenience and fast setup Beekeepers who prefer DIY assembly or customization

This product is a practical choice for beekeepers who want a deep brood box that is already assembled and painted instead of buying unassembled parts.

It is also useful for beekeepers deciding between plastic one-piece frames and wooden frames with separate foundation, since both options are available within the same product format.

Who This Product Is Best For

This product is best for beekeepers running standard 10-frame Langstroth equipment who want a ready-to-use deep hive body.

It is especially useful for beginners who want to avoid assembly work and for experienced beekeepers who want to add equipment quickly during hive expansion.

When This Product May Not Be the Best Choice

This product may not be the best choice for beekeepers using 8-frame equipment, since it is built for a 10-frame hive system.

It may also not be the right fit for beekeepers who specifically want unfinished equipment or who want to assemble and paint boxes themselves.

Common Beginner Mistakes

A common beginner mistake is assuming black and yellow foundation change how well bees accept the frame. The stated difference here is inspection visibility and beekeeper preference, not bee acceptance.

Another common mistake is expecting painted commercial-grade woodenware to be perfectly clear of knots, cracks, or stapling splits on the surface.

Compatibility

This hive body is designed for standard 10-frame Langstroth beekeeping equipment.

It uses the standard 9-5/8 inch deep format for a deep brood box.

I could jot be more pleased with the quality of this product. So worth a little extra money to have them built, painted and the frames triple dipped.

    Great value

The painted deep boxes looked great and the plastic foundations came with an impressive amount of wax on them! Previously, I would always add more wax to my foundations or order double wax but I didn't have to with these.
