Bee Hive Winter Quilt Box with Moisture Board
Winter quilt box is available in a 5 frame hive, an 8 frame hive or a 10 frame hive size. These boxes are already painted black, saving you the time and the mess! Boxes are made with ventilation holes in the front, which are covered with heavy duty plastic entrance discs which allow you total control over leaving them open for an entrance, turned to just the ventilation holes, or even completely closed off!
Wood shavings are included with the quilt box. PLEASE NOTE: the wood shavings will arrive enclosed in a plastic bag to keep them in place during shipping. Please open the bag and empty the shavings into the center of the quilt box, spreading them out for even coverage, and throw the plastic bag away.
There are 4 ventilation holes on each side of the box, just above the wood shavings, which are covered on the inside with screen to keep critters out, and allow excess moisture to be released from the shavings. There is also an additional 3/4" rise on the bottom which will allow room for those vital winter patties or sugar for extra winter feed. This area takes the place of a candy board.
Also included is a moisture board which sits on the top of the winter quilt box. The moisture board will help to draw in the excess moisture and release it away from the bees.
While these winter quilt boxes will not guarantee the survival of your bee hive through the winter, it will give them a better chance to make it, especially when used in conjuction with our Bee Cozy Winter Bee Hive Single Story Wraps and Double Story Wraps.
